Festival Area Wrapped in Mesh Banners

Kulbroen, in collaboration with Culture Works, has created the new hybrid festival PLAZA in Aarhus, featuring electronic music and local artists.

The venue is constructed using scaffolding – the most sustainable option for temporary installations of this scale, as it can be dismantled and reused in various contexts, over and over again.

For the cladding, Kulbroen sought materials that could also be reused – and that had already served a purpose:

We chose to work with mesh banners through THE UPCYCL to cover the Plaza venue. The material had a unique quality, changing in character throughout the day with the lighting and stage show. The mesh was repurposed from advertising banners on scaffolding and building facades around the city, and it made perfect sense for us to upcycle something that could no longer be used in its original form.

Kulbroen is based around an old concrete coal crane track, an industrial landmark in Sydhavnen, Aarhus. Today, the site is being transformed into a cultural platform and public space for the city. Kulbroen is a dynamic meeting point for art, culture, and sustainable initiatives, aiming to connect the city's industrial past with creative visions for the future through artistic and cultural experiences of all kinds.
