THE UPCYCL unveils a partnership between Lindab and Middelfart Municipality that has truly made a difference in waste management. We have connected Lindab with Middelfart Municipality, where discarded steel plates from Lindab's production will now be used as cladding on Middelfart Municipality's upcoming recycling center.
Together, we have supplied surplus materials for an impressive 5989 square meters! The discarded steel plates come in different colors, profiles, and dimensions but are united in a harmonious whole.
This project represents a completely new approach to construction, and it is especially courageous for a municipality to take the first step in this direction. Jakob Baungaard, former project manager, explains: "There are certain challenges as a municipal entity when implementing new sustainable initiatives in construction, as you are managing citizens' funds. You think, 'What if something goes wrong?' but you forget to consider the gains and end up focusing on worst-case scenarios."
The purpose of the project is to become the preferred example of how to build recycling centers in Denmark. By working with surplus materials on a large scale, Middelfart Municipality, Waste & Recycling, has achieved significant savings in resources, CO2 emissions, and costs.
A big applause to Middelfart Municipality for boldly leading the way in the use of surplus materials in municipal construction.
We are eagerly looking forward to the construction starting and, most importantly, to seeing the finished result!
